• VITATABS^® B6  is a registered food supplement containing Vitamin B6.
• Vitamin B6 is a collective name for three substituted pyridines---pyridoxal, pyridoxol, and pyridoxamine-they are closely related and function together.
• The active form of vitamin B6, pyridoxal phosphate, is the most important coenzyme in amino acid metabolism.
• In glycogen degradation, catalyzed by Glycogen phosphorylase, B6 also plays an important role.
• Vitamin B6 is a water soluble vitamin and excreted within 8 hours after ingestion and like the other B vitamins, needs to be replaced by whole foods or supplements.
• One tablet VITATABS^® B6 contains 2,2 mg of vitamin B6.
• Daily dosage:

  1 tablet per day, which is equivalent to 100 % of the RDA.

Usage

• Vitamin B6 is involved in more than 60 different enzymes in the body and involved in the metabolism of protein, carbohydrates, and fats.
• Vitamin B6 is an essential cofactor in the functioning of the central nervous system, and the muscles. It also plays an important role in learning and memory.
• Numerous studies have suggested that pregnant and lactating women may have dietary intakes of vitamin B6 that are well below the recommended dietary allowance, which may affect the vitamin B6 status of their offspring.
• The results of studies on the relationship between vitamin B6 and arteriosclerosis found that thrombogenesis, disorder of collagen metabolism and production of free radicals may be the processes that cause arteriosclerosis in human and experimental animals with vitamin B6 deficiency.
• Hyperhomocysteinemia, a risk factor for atherosclerosis, is associated with deficiencies of vitamin B6, folate, and cobalamin. Studies have shown lower levels of folate and vitamin B6 confer an increased risk of atherosclerosis.
• Vitamin B6 is effective in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome and related disorders in patients with vitamin B6 deficiency.
• Animal and human studies suggest that vitamin B6 deficiency affects both humoral and cell-mediated immune responses. Lymphocyte differentiation and maturation are altered by deficiency, delayed-type hypersensitivity responses are reduced, and antibody production may be indirectly impaired.
• Additional human studies indicate that vitamin B6 status may influence tumor growth and disease processes. Deficiency of the vitamin has been associated with immunological changes observed in the elderly, persons infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and those with uremia or rheumatoid arthritis.
