COLONIC Plus^® -INULIN
(Inulin Tablets)

• Inulin is a natural prebiotic that may also be classified as functional food ingredients. It is produced from chicory root (Cichorium intybus) by using hot water extraction. Both Inulin and its hydrolysate, oligofructose, are prebiotics.
  
• Prebiotic is a non-digestible food ingredient that beneficially affects the host by selectively stimulating the growth and/or activity of one or a limited number of bacteria in the colon (such as bifidobacteria), thus improving host health.
  
• Inulin maintains a favourable bacterial flora in the intestines. This is because only the beneficial bacteria of human organism are able to utilize inulin. 
  
• One tablet of INUBIO^® Forte contains 1000 mg of inulin.

  Inulin content of each tablet is equivalent to 17.5 g of chicory root.

Usage

• Inulin improves the growth of beneficial Bifidobacteria in the intestines and cleans intestines by reducing the amount of harmful intestinal bacteria thus resulting in a more healthy intestinal bacterial flora.
  
• Both chicory inulin and its hydrolysis product, oligofructose, have been used in human studies. Studies showed that the intake of the chicory fructo-oligosaccharides significantly modified the composition of the fecal microflora.
  
• The most marked effect was an increase in the number of bifidobacteria (5 and 8 times after feeding of oligofructose and inulin respectively) and a significant reduction in bacteroides, fusobacteria and clostridia.
  
• In the elderly, the feeding of 20 and 40 g/d of inulin caused a significant increase in bifidobacterial counts in feces (from 10 ^7.9 to 10 ^8.8 and 10 ^9.2 respectively)
  
• Inulin has also a favourable effect on the ratio of HDL and LDL cholesterol in blood. Inulin lowers slightly blood pressure and blood sugar level.
  
• There is strong evidence shows that Inulin consumption stimulates bowel habit, alleviates constipation and increases frequency and volume of defecation.
  
• A daily moderate supplement of Inulin-type fructans may result in increased mineral (especially Ca and Mg) absorption, and thus has the potential to prevent or postpone osteoporosis.
  
• There is preliminary evidence in experimental animals of a preventive effect against colon cancer.
